To become an integral part of the fashion world, it is
important to have an eye for style and panache. And while fashion may bring to
mind at once the image of clothes, what would all the lovely flowing and
colourful apparels be without the perfect shoes to match with them? And so,
footwear is one of the most important components of fashion. The right footwear
not only compliments the dress but also enhances the complete look of the
person. Women, more than men, command a vast variety of options as far as footwear
designs are concerned. Flats, heels, chappals, sandals, shoes, in materials
ranging from leather to cloth to jute, there is no dearth of options as far as
women’s footwear is concerned. And so designing women’s footwear offers greater
challenges than those for the men.
One can also choose from various segment options –
designing shoes for the affordable range, the high upper clientele or simply
the everyday wear for any and everyone. There can be options in designing for
children, men, women, brides, sportspersons, and many more. One can choose what
one interests depending upon also whether post the footwear design course, they
would like to work for a company or open up their own design studio. Both are
lucrative in the sense that one can even come up with one’s own brand or reach
great heights while working with a large brand.
FDDI offers a bachelors’ degree (four years) in Footwear
Design and Production as well as Fashion Leather Accessory Design and a masters
in Footwear Design and Production (two years). After a complete six years
programme and armed with degrees, a young student can embark on an exciting
journey into the world of footwear designing.
With modern technology much of the designing, that is
really an art, has acquired better dimensions. One can experiment with colour,
texture, material and styling along with the basic designing. The footwear
designs by Christian Louboutin were much inspired by archeology. And so
designing can seek inspiration from art, culture, traditions, motifs, and go on
to experiment with embroidery, weaving, sequins, and the like.
With several institutes in India offering footwear design courses, footwear courses shall in the future too be much sought after. After
all, the footwear design course is an integral part of fashion and the two are
bound to coexist in the glamour world.
